The Raleigh Police Department’s shameful behavior in recent weeks to stop the notorious display of dangerous weapons that incite fear among the populace is nothing new.
But it’s still pathetic.
And make no mistake about it: it’s racially coded. When black people – the Black Panthers – marched through the streets in the 1960s and 1970s, they were routinely harassed, arrested, and assassinated.
But white knuckleheads can walk through our streets – and stop in a local Subway – unmolested for the sole reason that they are white, and the police force is either sympathetic, or too weak to respond. Every single person of good will should be upset about this development.
In the 1920s, during the second wave of the KKK, the New York Times wrote about the largest Klan rally on Long Island of a couple of thousand members and noted even then that the local police refused to intervene even though these people were breaking state law.
